Colored wedding dresses have actually been around for a long time. The use of wedding dresses with varying degrees of color was actually the norm for a considerable period of time. There were two main reasons for using a colored dress. The first reason was it’s sheer practicality as a color other than white or ivory could be used again with a little bit of work on restyling the wedding dress into something that could be worn in normal everyday use. This would not be practical with a white colored or ivory wedding dress.
A colored wedding dress was also used if it was not the brides first wedding or indeed if the lady was marrying a widower. Other than those two reasons there is also possibly the best reason of all for wearing a colored wedding dress i.e. for the beauty of it and to break with normal conventions and make a very distinctive style statement.
In todays society the normal conventions that are applied to wedding dresses are not as strictly applied and this has opened up a whole new world of options for the bride that wants to be a little more distinctive.
Colored wedding dresses are not just limited to the normal styles but the availability of gothic wedding dresses, celtic wedding dresses and all the various seasonal themed and destination dresses means that todays bride has a whole new world of colors and styles to choose from. It is because of this variety and choice that colored wedding dresses are no so much in vogue.
A colored wedding dress provides the bride with the opportunity to break from the norm, add color and style, be in vogue and yet be distinctive. That is the beauty of colored wedding dresses.
