Corsages
Wedding Flowers - The Wedding Flower Corsages
Among the hundreds of items that go into planning a wedding, it can be difficult to find enough time for some tasks that seem small. Even in the narrower category of floral arrangements the focus will be, naturally, more on choosing centerpieces, the bridal bouquet and so forth. But give some attention to the humble corsage.
Several members of the wedding party will wear this important symbol and decoration. The bride’s mother, grandmother and other members of the family are among them. But so may be a female wedding ceremony greeter, the guest book attendant and others. They will appreciate the care that went into selecting the most beautiful and appropriate corsage.
The first step is to narrow the selection down to a specific type. There are several. The pin corsage is the most traditional. It pins to the clothing, typically near the heart. A clutch corsage, by contrast, pins to the purse or clutch bag, hence the name. The wrist corsage is, as the name suggests, worn on the wrist.
The type chosen influences the species that will look and function best.
For example, a white Calla Lily will not only look beautiful near the heart of the bride’s mother, but stay unmolested and take up just the right amount of space on the dress for its purpose. But it would make a poor choice for wrist corsage because of its shape, however lovely the flower may be.
Instead, a delicate coral Rose would serve excellently as a wrist or clutch corsage. The color provides the perfect accent for, say, a cream gown or black purse. At the same time, the shape is symmetrical, which lets it integrate well with its location.
Apart from the flower species chosen, consider a few other aspects.
Since it’s the groom’s responsibility to obtain corsages for the female wedding party members, he may not be aware of some possible problems. An attractive flower guard should be purchased with a lily corsage, for example, since their anthers will stain an unprotected dress. Make sure he gets any assistance needed in making the selection, but let him exercise a little creativity in the choice, too.
Gardenias are a favorite of many men. Not only is the flower’s delicate look very complimentary to a woman’s gown, but even rough men will sneak a whiff of the fragrance when no one is looking.
They may also neglect to consider that there is one more corsage often part of the whole experience: the bride’s after-wedding corsage. As the happy couple prepare to zoom away on the honeymoon trip, most brides will change into another outfit, such as a traveling suit. Her lapel will look stunning with just the right corsage.
The Yellow Dendrobium makes for a stellar choice here, provided the color coordinates with her outfit. Fellas, just ask! Corsages are not intended to be a surprise. Its bright and cheery color brings just the right accent and the shape of the petals is simply stunning.
