Seasonal
Wedding flowers by season
For anyone who has to select flowers for the wedding, the effort can be daunting to find the available seasonal wedding flowers. But doing the research is a must. Not all flowers are easily available at all times of the year, unless you pay a large premium for hothouse flowers.
Fortunately, there are several species to choose from for every season. Whether you’re intentionally designing your wedding around a specific seasonal theme, or just want the right flower at the right time, there are blossoms galore.
Spring is, not surprisingly, one of the most popular times of the year for a wedding.
Allium are right there to support your choice. These delightful red spheres would make the perfect flower for the guests’ tables. They liven up any table and take to the vase without complaint. The Calla Lily is equally stunning. With their cheery, bright yellow petals they can serve everywhere from the wedding party table to a mother’s corsage.
Summer is the peak season for weddings, for obvious reasons. The weather is great for outdoor weddings and vacations let everyone travel to the festivities with ease. Wedding flowers are the most cooperative during this time of year.
Bachelor’s Buttons, for example, will spruce up the reception table with their lovely lavender shade and delightful shape. And what better choice for the groom’s boutonnière could there be than a stunning red Carnation? For the tall vase next to the wedding present table a Bird of Paradise makes for the perfect decoration.
Even Fall still allows for an enormous variety of beautiful natural species, and prices are lower for most wedding items at this time of year.
The after-wedding bridal corsage could find no better candidate than a lovely white Gardenia. Beautiful and fragrant, it’s been popular at weddings since the mid-1700s. But every era can equally appreciate the bright red or yellow Gerber Daisy. And there’s no better choice for the wedding cake table than a vase filled with Paperwhite Narcissus. Long-stemmed Delphinium hybrids will provide any altar with elegance and loveliness.
But don’t despair if you have your heart set on a winter wedding. Many aspects of the affair are less expensive during this season and lots of couples simply prefer the cool delights of this time of year. While few flowers bloom naturally then (outside the warmest climates), nearly any species can be had, thanks to modern greenhouses.
Tulips are a favorite, since they lend stunning color to what might otherwise be a stark landscape. Similarly, there are several varietals of Anemone that offer hot pink or bright red with black centers to beautify the guests’ tables. The pink, bell-shaped Amaryllis Belladonna fill a vase to provide the perfect accent on the bride and groom’s table. Peruvian Lilies offer an excellent choice for the bride’s arm bouquet.
No matter what season of the year you choose to have your wedding, there are flowers available that will fit perfectly into your chosen theme.
